Garfield, John - 1951 Signed Playbill for "Golden Boy" - His Last Play
6 x 9 four page, (printed both sides) complete Play program for the Norwich Summer Theatre in Norwalk CT.
This is for the July 1951, pre-Broadway run of the Clifford Odets play, “Golden Boy”. Signed by John Garfield on the rear cover, in blue fountain pen.
During this time period, Garfield’s film roles had dried up, due to him being blacklisted during the communist scare of the late 1940s and early 1950s.
This was Garfield’s last stage play. Long-term heart problems, allegedly aggravated by the stress of his blacklisting, had led to his death, on May 21, 1952 at the age of 39.
One vertical fold through program, otherwise very fine.
